St. Xavier’s Higher Secondary School, Pathaliaghat football team, brought immense pride and glory to the school by emerging as the Champions of the Don Bosco Inter-School Football Knockout Tournament for Boys, organized by Don Bosco School, Agartala. The tournament witnessed the participation of eight boys’ football teams representing eight different Don Bosco Schools of Tripura, making it a highly competitive and exciting sporting event. The tournament was inaugurated in the morning in the presence of Fr. Sunny Joseph of Pitra, who graced the occasion as the Chief Guest. Fr. Surjit Tigga, Principal of Don Bosco School, Agartala, warmly welcomed the participating students, teachers and Principals from the different Don Bosco schools. He encouraged the young players to display true sportsmanship, discipline and team spirit throughout the tournament. St. Xavier’s School began its campaign with a convincing victory over Don Bosco School, Baijalbari, defeating them by four goals. With this impressive performance, the St. Xavier’s team advanced to the semi-finals, where they faced the host team, Don Bosco School, Agartala. The semi-final proved to be a closely fought encounter. After a competitive game, St. Xavier’s emerged victorious through a penalty shootout, securing their place in the much-awaited final. The final brought together St. Xavier’s Hr. Sec. School, Pathaliaghat, and Don Bosco School, Nabarsardar. The match was filled with excitement, determination and suspense as both teams battled fiercely for the coveted Champions Trophy. The game ended in a 1–1 draw, sending the match into a penalty shootout. It was a tense and nail-biting moment for both teams, as every kick carried the hopes of their respective schools. The supporters of both teams cheered and shouted at the top of their voices, passionately encouraging their players. The atmosphere was electric as the players displayed courage, confidence and determination. Finally, St. Xavier’s School emerged victorious in the penalty shootout, lifting the coveted Champions Trophy amidst loud cheers and celebrations. Adding further glory to the team's remarkable performance, Handsome Jamatia of St. Xavier’s School won the Best Goalkeeper Award, while John Jamatia of St. Xavier’s School Pathaliaghat was adjudged the Best Player of the tournament. These individual honours were a fitting recognition of their outstanding skills, dedication and contribution to the team's success. The victory was a moment of immense joy and pride for the entire St. Xavier’s school community. The achievement not only reflects the talent and dedication of the players but also their teamwork, perseverance and commitment to excellence. The Champions Trophy has added another glorious chapter to the sporting achievements of St. Xavier’s Hr. Sec. School, Pathaliaghat. Fr. Surjit Tigga presented the Best Player and Best Goalkeeper prizes, while Bro. Alexius Condpan of Baijalbari gave away the Champions Trophy to the winning team. The school extends its heartfelt congratulations to all the members of the football team for this remarkable achievement and for bringing laurels and glory to the school. Special appreciation goes to the team’s Coach and Manager, Sir Animesh Debbarma and Sir Dosorot Kaipeng, for their dedicated guidance, coaching and constant encouragement of the players throughout the tournament.
